Andrew Ettenoffer,
I am a chef and a DJ, and I am combining the two into a fresh new concept. The idea is simple – just like you pair food with wine, you pair music with a great meal. Consider the dark, raspy voice of Leonard Cohen – for example – his music styling evokes a mood that would complement a very particular menu. And that menu would not blend well with, say, the Beach Boys.
On May 7th, I brought this idea to Bluprint for a 5-course beer dinner. Half Acre Brewery brought the beer, Bluprint did the food, and Fig provided the “paired” soundtrack. Here’s the complete menu:
First Course
Blue Prawn Salad, Aleppo chili, local greens, and marinated lemon
Paired with Half Acre Xtra Pale Ale
Paired with established female alt rockers (Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Bjork)
Second Course
Fried Ipswich Clam, Boston lettuce, sauce gribiche
Paired with Half Acre Lager
Paired with feel good rock (Tom Petty, CCR, Chris Isaak)
Third Course
Country Pâté, bacon, pickled Illinois rhubarb, grilled toast
Paired with Daisy Cutter Pale Ale
Paired with Breakbeat stuff (Fatboy Slim, Wiseguys, Chemical Bros.)
Fourth Course
Venison Sausage, braised red cabbage, pumpernickel puree
Paired with Half Acre Baume’ Stout
Paired with Early punk (Ramones, Clash, Stooges)
Dessert Course
Sticky toffee pudding with bourbon ice cream
Paired with Half Acre Baume’ Vanilla
Paired with 50 and 60s R&B (Elvis, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry)

Worth It: “A good DJ. Unless it is a very small gathering, a DJ gives a certain energy to any party that you’re just not going to get from an iPod. Also, if the crowd decides to turn your event into an impromptu dance party, having a good DJ allows that flexibility.”
Not Worth It: “Celebrity DJs, unless your event requires headline talent to perform. There’s so much talent out there that you can get a great DJ—who may even be better suited to your crowd— for a fraction of the cost.”
—Tomiko Iwata, vice president of special events, Fox Broadcasting Company, Los Angeles
Fig Media is battling it out with Revel, in this second installment of their Video Off.
Last Month Revel Challenged Fig to a “video off event.” Fig accepted and responded by kicking off the party early and rolling out an internet battle. Revel has responded with 2 videos, this is Fig’s Second.
To give some context. Brit and Clint, are friends/rivals of ours that work at Revel. We noticed that on thier facebook pages, they have lots of photos with them together. However they are not, which is why its so funny. Imagine taking two of your coworkers and making one of these and you will understand it more. Megan Taylor put this together in a response to them smashing us with a sledgehammer.
