When you book all three services with us, we call it a “Mod Deal.”

Why? Because we like to think of it like The Godfather- “making you an offer you can’t refuse.”

First, it means more people tracking your wedding, so more care and attention. Less things will fall through the cracks, there will be better back-up systems. So you don’t have to worry about relying solely on one person to show up and pull off your wedding.

Second, more people means better final results. We have a core team talking about their craft, best practices, latest trends. So you get a collective think tank. We pride ourselves on having a vibrant culture around the art of weddings. We enjoy working with each other and have a blast doing it.

Third, convenience and ease; more vendors under one roof means less shopping, less vendor negotiation/coordination, and generally more value.

Book one service or book all three, either way you get the care of our team.

So how do you get started?

Call us and set up a free consultation to see what we are about.

17 years. That is the age of the fig films wedding archive. This short is a compilation from the archive of silent wedding films shot in Chicago between 1993 and 2010. Using vintage Super8 cameras, fig filmmakers create these vintage silent shorts for Chicago couples. The film has an original score titled: On this Day by fig composer/musician Eric Hillman.

“On this day, I was inspired by the timeless quality of the footage. It has such rich emotion and joy represented on the faces of the people. I wanted to capture that with the score.” ~Eric Hillman

Super8 film was released in 1965 by Eastman Kodak. It is the equivalent of what a camcorder is to video today.

The film is a reversal film, meaning it eliminated the need for an expensive work print off of the negative, making it an attractive medium for filmmakers, artists and family documentarians to create films. Reversal film has an emulsion that can be processed to create the work print on the same strip of film. Later adopted by Fugifilm and Polaroid.

Adopted by filmmakers like Oliver Stone and used in films like The Doors, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, U Turn, and JFK this silent film format is still alive today. Super8 film festivals are held in both the US and the UK. Festivals like Flicker Film Festival and Cambridge International Super 8 Film Festival.

Fig films adopted this medium to shoot weddings for its timeless feeling. Offering an artistic and traditional option to couples.

The “What are you doing tonight?” Challenge

CS magazine called with a challenge: Cover behind the scenes of the 12 location nightlife advertorial shoot with photographer Jon Shaft in 2 weeks.

The Solution: James Gustin had the vision of stepping outside the traditional behind the scenes sizzle reels and montages. He transferred that vision to the fig films team. They then came up with the “What are you doing tonight?” concept. Imagine if you found an iPhone full of footage from someone’s night out on the town in Chicago. What would that look like? We took Jon’s photography and brought it to life.

The result: A custom 2 minute film for the magazine to promote the advertorial and a vimeo channel with behind the scenes clips for their social media needs and one very happy marketing manager.

If you think shooting on the iPhone is easy- It’s not. “I had 2-5 minutes with each model in each location. My window was in between set ups for the photography for the advertorials. I had to think out each location like a sequence, see what the photographer was doing and build on it. I had to use my time with the models well and then compose a vignette of shots for each location. It took a while for me to figure out the angle I wanted to go, but once I took off- I started to get excited.” says, director Melissa Martens. ” Once I did the first shoot, I knew how to direct my teammates to cover the rest. It was a lot of fun to build on a well oiled machine that was already moving. I think Jon has been doing this spread for years. I am grateful they allowed me to play. James’ vision was dead on, I look forward to seeing what we come up with next.”

Fig team is hard at work as it film’s JangoSMTP commercial on Tuesday, May 10th in Congress Theater late into the night.

On Tuesday, May 10th, Fig filmmaker Joseph Martinez directed a commercial in the Congress Theater for Fig client Jango SMTP, an email service that allows users to separate different types of transactional emails into distinct groups for recording and offers superior email deliverability as a trusted sender.

Accompanied by Fig team members Tim Musho, a cinematographer, and Hafeez Sarumi serving as an assistant director, Martinez filmed past 1 am. The crew worked well into the night armed with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and a sense of humor. Set up for the commercial, “The Hot Date”, began around 5:30 pm and filming started after 7:30 pm. Martinez and Musho struggled to perfect the lighting and camera angles for the filming. They worked along side the production assistants in getting the set and props ready for the commercial which included three ninja outfits that were worn by the Fig interns Pagonis, Mares, and Pierre.

Martinez and Sarumi worked hard through the night shooting take after take pushing for the perfect cuts. “The shoot was fun and energetic. It took a long time but we pushed hard and it paid off, the shots look great”, Martinez explained. As the night, coffee, and food came to an end, the determined Fig team called it a wrap roughly around 1:45 am. The Jango SMTP commercial will be edited by the Fig team and presented to its client Jango SMTP for approval to be advertised on their website.

Stay tuned for the commercial, in the meantime watch the last one:
