CREATE MEDIA THAT MATTERS WITH FIG FILMS AND YOUR NON-PROFIT.

Thank you for your interest in commissioning a film with our team. We are excited to share our experience with you! Inside this document you will find an overview of our philosophy, our approach to non-profit filmmaking and information to help you get started in working with our team. An inspiring film can both communicate your mission and help raise money for your cause. Every non-profit we have worked for has touched us with their vision for a better world. Help us live our mission by telling great stories that inspire others!

GETTING STARTED

At this point we hope you have reached out to talk to us virtually so we can lear a little more about you and your goals. If you haven’t, let’s set that up! Next, we usually request an appointment for our team to meet your team in person. Make some time with your key decision makers and let us walk you through the in’s and out’s of our process. We can help you decide what budget levels are best for your goals, explain the benefits of booking a script and help you design a media plan for the future. If you can, set up our meeting to align with your budget committee that is planning your future year.

ABOUT US

fig media inc. is a creative delivery company founded to facilitate James and Michele Gustin’s high touch creative media talents into partnerships with thriving innovative companies for over 25 years.

Our non-profit filmmaking practice grew out of a need for fundraising films at gala’s. We got our start tugging at the heart strings of audiences to help fund the causes that moved them. Our films were so successful that our clients began using them on their websites, in social media campaigns and eventually we found ourselves creating work for clients that highlighted the heart of their mission.

After years of learning the in’s and outs of what makes a successful film, we have developed a methodology that infuses the heart and soul of an organization into action through storytelling.

FILM VS VIDEO

You may have noticed that we use the word “film,” instead of “video,” in most of our communications. That is on purpose. Chances are you went searching for a “video,” first or may have experience working with a “videographer.” We may even wager to guess that you weren't completely satisfied with the results. As filmmakers we employ the practices of storytelling used in your favorite movies and television shows. So while we may be creating “video,” our team is creating original work that considers the social and emotional landscape of your mission through thoughtful creative, writing and direction. This is where we differentiate ourselves.

Videographers capture the world as it happens. Filmmakers tell stories.

OUR APPROACH

We start every project with a Creative Brief.

The Creative Brief is a planning tool widely used by creative agencies and marketing personnel when designing or implementing a media program. It can be used when creating communications directed at clients, employees, shareholders, potential investors, the media, or any other target group. We use the creative brief to define the audience for your story and how best to speak to that audience.

CREATIVE BRIEF

We will ask you to fill out our brief before we meet next by visiting this link and filling out the form: http://figgy.net/creative-brief. We want to know the state of the hearts and minds we are tasked with inspiring. This informs our decision making process and ensures you stay on your goals throughout the process. Then we focus on creating content that is evergreen.

EVERGREEN

We want to create media that you can use. Media that doesn't sit on a shelf collecting dust. To do this we focus on authenticity. We do our best to make sure all our films feel like the organizations they are created for by using the people you serve to inform our creative. We want to learn about your culture, adapt your language and work with your team to pull out the natural inspiration that already exists through your work. In this way we aren't reinventing the magic your team already possesses but finding ways to bring it to light and communicate that to the world. This creates content that connects with audiences on a deeper level. That creates evergreen.

DURING PRODUCTION

Our team will coach you to select the right stories for your mission and help you tell them in a way that inspires others. We will help you navigate internal politics of executives, board members and volunteers to come up with creative solutions. We will work with your on camera talent to tell their story in a respectful and authentic way. We also will insist you be a part of the production as it unfolds. This way you get to help our team make informed decisions. We explain our contracts and our pricing up front so there are no surprises and we will always educate you on extra costs before anything happens. We want you to feel supported and empowered through the process.

POST PRODUCTION

Critique is a big part of our work. Our team meets weekly to review edits and give feedback on the films we are creating. This means that our team has worked your cut several times before you see draft number one. When our team is happy with a direction, we send you a review draft. This draft compiles the best of all our content in a strong direction that was vetted by our team. At this stage we are ready for your notes and adjustments. This allows you to customize the edits before they are mastered. Our online portal allows you comment directly on the film and leave notes for our editors. This eliminates mistakes or miscommunications back and forth. All this can be done remotely. So if you need to check on something outside the office, you will be able to do so easily. Once you are happy with your film, we do all the finalizing details and master the film for screening or posting. We highly recommend a screening if you are not going to use your film at an event. It is a great way to celebrate the work and your organization.

BOOKING INFORMATION

SELECTING A BUDGET

Below you will find three levels of sample budgets. We keep our non-profit pricing competitive when compared to our corporate or commercial work. You benefit from a team that operates under high scrutiny working with our larger brands without paying the commercial brand price. That said, we typically do not accept projects for less than 5k. We have found that the quality our clients have come to expect suffers when we take on projects for less. We can customize a budget based on your needs once we have a clear picture of your goals. Think of this as a conversation starter. Take a look at what some of our past clients have done, gather your questions and let’s discuss!

WHEN TO BOOK

We get a lot of calls for creating a video four weeks out from an event. We can not stress enough that if you want to save some money, you should be looking at booking your project with us well in advance. We need four months to complete a project from beginning to end without incurring rush fees. So don’t wait! If your big gala is in November, you should be looking to book your project with us in June. If you have a recurring event that you know you will need video services for consistently, a subscription agreement may be the right fit for you.

RUSH DELIVERY

Pricing below is based on a standard timeline of 4 to 6 months from pre-production to final film. If you need anything faster than that, we do charge a rush fee to fit you into our exsisting pipeline and staff accordingly. We are masters at delivering impossible timelines but it does require the right funding to make sure we ensure quality. Your producer will provide an additional quote based on your needs, should you need this option. This does mean that you will likely see pricing much higher than what is outlined below.

SUBSCRIPTION BOOKING

We like to reward our ongoing relationships and we feel this is a good way to pass on savings. We typically raise our prices by 10% each year to keep our quality and retain our talented team. We offer three and five year contracts to lock in our current rates. If you have a recurring event that you know you will want films for each year, this is a great option. We also can price out a quarterly package that produces content on a regular basis. We often add in perks and extras for three to five year agreements. Ask us about a custom subscription plan for you. Subscriptions also guarantee your spot in our production schedule each year.

SAMPLE BUDGET: DOCUMENTARY STYLE FUNDRAISING FILM

We consider this our entry level package. If this is your first time working with us, this is a great way to start. Then the following year you can budget for higher levels.

This level is guided by our staff but your team handles pre-production scripting needs that arise. We can expand production hours for filming if needed but we typically steer you toward one full day of production and guide you toward creative solutions to make that happen.
