Veuve Clicquot // The Arrival
Project Overview
Producer | James Gustin | Director | Melissa (Martens) Fox
The 102nd Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac is the oldest freshwater distance race in the world. Sponsoring the race for the first time, Veuve Clicquot and The Chicago Yacht Club were inspired to create this short documentary in partnership with Chicago Company Fig Media (fig films). Using all local artists, filmmakers and musicians, this 13-minute documentary covers the events surrounding the race, the traditions of champagne/celebration and stories from the sailors. Starting in Chicago and ending on Mackinac Island, The Arrival is just a taste of the passion shared by the sailing community in the Midwest; making the documentary a true love letter to both Chicago and Mackinac Island, Michigan and all who love the sport of sailing.
Branded Documentary
What is a branded documentary?
fig films is invested in telling great stories. We believe that the best way to show off a brand is through exquisite storytelling that highlights individuals passionate about what they do. More than just a highlight reel, the branded documentary is a tool to engage a community in celebrating themselves. We find that this approach creates a film that has a lasting inspirational impact.
The Arrival Impact
The Arrival debuted at the 102nd Race to Mackinac Awards Gala in 2010 to the sailing community at The Chicago Yacht Club. It marked a partnership 100+ people to create the 13 minute film. Since it’s debut it has been featured on dozens of sailing blogs around the world and including local chicago icon Billy Dec’s blog, A Chicago Thing. Numbers for views continue to rise each week as the community passes around the piece on social networks.
