Visual storytellers at fig media capture first ever wedding in the grocery aisle at Aldi for Aldi Corporate.
Love on aisle 7! We were delighted to be part of the multi-talented team that threw a wedding for Aldi contest winners Micheal and Jessica Hurd. Micheal and Jessica applied to win a contest where Aldi would throw them a wedding at Aldi's corporate insights center in Batavia, making them the first ever couple to get married at Aldi. Working with Anthony Navarro at Liven it Up Events our team spearheaded the media capture for both the corporate clients at Aldi and the lovely couple. This complicated ask required expert planning, location scouting, strong communication skills and a fast turn around to get the story in the hand of media outlets within 24 hours of the nuptials. The wedding photography and wedding video needed to be both on brand for Aldi Corporate and be a keepsake for the couple and their families. Good thing our team is highly skilled at both commercial filmmaking and photography for international corporate clients and weddings! In addition, our DJ team set up a sound system with a press box; as well as curated the sonic vibes for the couple.
Challenges
Multiple demands on the media capture required numerous strategy sessions with the fig team. We conducted company wide meetings to discuss the challenges of delivering what essentially is a branded corporate commercial shoot disguised as a wedding. That brain trust is part of our methodology. We then took our notes and plan to Anthony Navarro and team to work it seamlessly into an overall timeline for the day. We LOVE working with Liven it Up. They know their stuff!
Producers Michele Gustin and Brent Rolland worked with the team at Liven it Up to coordinate our concerns. Brian Carey and James Gustin planned around the complex lighting issues discovered at the walk through. Shooting photography in an Aldi store creates bright pools of light, dark shadows and strange colors, they had to be intentional about where they set up their lighting gear. They began with a first look at a real Aldi store, with patrons buying groceries in the background. The team was tasked with making sure the Aldi brand was featured front and center. They directed the playful couple to have fun roaming the aisles in shopping carts and wedding accoutrement. Filmmaking duo Codi Palm and Joshua Tommaro worked around local news crews also vying for the "best shot," and working to film a media reel due to the press next morning. They conducted interviews, captured audio and visuals for Aldi as well as adding our storytelling flair to create a short film for the couple post wedding.
