SUMMARY

That’s How We Roll LLC needed a Chicago production company to create marketing and PR media to push a celebrity endorsement of their product: Crumb Cake Cookie Thins by Mrs. Thinsters. Haylie Duff created a recipe for the cookies with Mrs. Thinsters and their marketing and PR department needed media to help pitch stories and promote the cookies. Haylie Duff flew into Chicago for 24 hours and our film and photo team produced and directed a multi-setup shoot on location.

  • Our photography team produced six lifestyles “looks,” in addition to product photography and a recipe “How to,” for social media.

  • Our film team produced 12 “shout out,” films for the product launch as well as a b-roll reel of the recipe and lifestyle shots of Haylie for PR pitches.

  • Our team designed the flow of the day and coordinated a complicated shot list with multiple needs.

  • In addition to our team, Mrs. Thinsters sent a videographer to cover the shoot for a behind the scenes featurette on facebook. We included the capture of this content in our plan.

CHALLENGES

We spent a lot of time educating our client on what was possible within the timeframe we had with Haylie. We broke down their shot list into a detailed schedule that timed the shoot down to the minute. Although we were booked for a full day of production, Haylie’s contract stipulated that we had her for six hours with breaks built into that time. That meant to shoot both photo and video we had a total of 4.5 hours to capture six different looks, product shots, video, and b-roll.

“It was fun to bring the Mrs. Thinsters brand to life through film, photo and social,” said producer Megan Taylor. Haylie Duff was an amazing talent to work with and we had a blast putting this together. The energy of the set and team was infectious and we ended up delivering more great media than expected, we were all delighted! Oh, and I love the cookies!”

Director Melissa Fox worked diligently on the timing of the day, coordinating multiple set-ups to tag team shots as the day went on. While we were shooting the video our photography team was busy shooting the lay flats and product shots. Our client was able to review images as they were shot and was delighted by the progress. Photographers James Gustin and Brian Carey tag teamed the shot list with Codi Palm assisting the overall day.

HOW OUR SERVICES WERE USED.

Our shoot wrapped with lots of high-fives and hugs. What could have been a stressful day working through a complicated and ambitious shot list ended with hugs and high-fives.  We delivered more content than our client asked for, our celebrity was happy and our team was excited about what we created together. We turned around the media within two weeks delivering an online gallery of both the photography and video. This allowed our clients to immediately download their final deliverables without having to wait for their hard drive. Their editors put together a BTS film right away and posted it on their facebook page.

MOS B-Roll Sample. MOS is a filmmaking term meaning "mit out sound." A quick way of saying "No Audio." This is used to submit to media outlets. This is not a traditional edit. B-Roll reels are designed for editors to grab the shots they like for a talk show or media appearance. This means that footage is often presented looser than it usually is to allow for this purpose. This is standard practice for media submissions.
